The map is correct, but the table lists 9 slave states and 8 free states, totalling 17--impossible, since there were only 16 states in 1800: the 13 colonies plus Vermont, Kentucky, and Tennessee. I think this has to do with New Jersey, which I suspect the author has counted as both slave and free, because of its gradual abolition policy. The map shows it as a slave state.

louisiane[edit]

The Louisiane is not a spain country. There is a "little" problem with this map: Napoléon I sell Louisiane to U.E. in 1804 see : http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Les-etat-unis-en_1803-04-1804-03.jpg for a good map.2A01:E35:8A26:E660:219C:106A:F9A4:2E6D 07:28, 16 February 2013 (UTC) (claudeh5 on wikipedia.fr)[reply]

Louisiana was under French control 1682–1769 and 1801–1803. In 1800 it was under Spanish control. TimoMPartanen (talk) 16:38, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
