Posting this picture on Wikipedia (from where it was transferred to Wikimedia Commons) has really made me think twice about doing such things in future. I was happy for the pic to be used elsewhere, with a credit. That's the way it should work. But the image has been used on dozens of other websites, several of them of a commercial nature, and not once has any sort of attribution appeared. Its widespread usage is a compliment, I know, but an anonymous one. The reality of uploading an image to Wikipedia/Wikimedia is that – whatever the Creative Commons licence may say – you have to accept that you'll almost never get any kind of credit for your work when it's taken and used elsewhere.
