This was a rather strong modification with a featured picture. I am not so sure it is a good idea. Specially as so strong colors are unnatural. Kruusamägi (talk) 23:12, 6 April 2013 (UTC)
- Are you working on a calibrated screen? I did not push the colors at all. As a matter of fact I did not even modify the file. All the RGB values are still there. It's the histogram equalisation that causes the new tonality. Unfortunately the quality standards on commons and especially the featured section are very poor. Sensor response is too linear and always requires local contrast adjustments to create a natural looking still image. My intentions were to merely improve the perception of the file, which is something I do quite often to images on Wikimedia that are way too flat. - Well, this new tonality is something that can't be seen in nature. At least in the waters of Estonia. Still, the best result may be somewhere between thous 2 images, so I wouldn't rush to revert. But I would like to ask you to create a new version that stands somewhere in the middle of thous 2. Kruusamägi (talk) 00:50, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
- I re-edited the original JPEG and did not push the non-linear contrast as much to compensate for the common over-saturation of user screens. The result should be a much flatter tonality. Before I'll upload it, please be so kind and approve/disapprove the new version. I'd like to add that some sort of artificial, indirect light source was used to create this image. - This new versions seems better. Bit more balanced.
