Why aren't the UK and Ireland coloured yellow? thanks, Sunil060902 (talk) 15:41, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

They are not "Legally obliged to join", they have a formal opt-out under the Amsterdam Treaty. See W:Schengen Area#EU member states with opt outs. They have voluntarily incorporated much of the Schengen acquis, but still retain (together, as part of their own Common Travel Area) a controlled border with the Schengen Area. I see now. OK, thanks. I'm sure I've seen your map shown in some WP articles as merely a "Schengen Area" versus "EU but outside Schengen" thing. thanks, Sunil060902 (talk) 14:31, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish territory in North Africa[edit]

It may be informative to indicate this. Adriaan Joubert (talk) 23:44, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Updated map to show temporary imposition of border controls[edit]

English: Given Austria, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Poland and Sweden have all temporarily imposed border controls as a result of the European migrant crisis and the French state of emergency means they have also, it would be good to show this on the map in the infobox at Schengen Area.

Greenland[edit]

Should Greenland also be listed under "open border"? http://naalakkersuisut.gl/en/About-government-of-greenland/About-Greenland/Coming-to-Greenland/Schengen-and-Tourists — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.145.208.115 (talk) 09:28, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ireland is in EU[edit]

Croatia[edit]

is now in the Schengen area (since yesterday). Maybe someone could update the map. --Hyperdieter (talk) 15:54, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Andorra is De Facto Schengen[edit]

This image needs updating. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Map_of_the_Schengen_Area.svg This link proves this. https://andorraguides.com/visa/schengen/ HelpfulHens (talk) 20:33, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The link you provided doesn't prove Andorras status. Quote: "Andorra has not yet signed on to the Schengen Agreement, meaning it is necessary to pass through border control when travelling into/out of the country, either via Spain or France". Xolani (talk) 18:14, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Xolani: Could you please face Andorra light-blue? Andorra is a de-facto-Schengen-member. Thx. --Opihuck (talk) 14:00, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Opihuck I've seen your discussion, but I'm not really sure I follow. Are there actual sources for the fact that there are no border controls? "Mainly focusing on customs" is not the same as "Only focussing on customs", right? Xolani (talk) 21:59, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No. See here: https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/de/service/visa-und-aufenthalt/schengen/207786#content_6 Custom controls are no passenger controls. Schengen has nothing to do with custom controls. Look at the German-Swiss border: The countries both are schengen members although with still existing custom controls. --Opihuck (talk) 08:37, 3 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bulgaria & Romania[edit]

Legend write only[edit]

Can someone add the legend in Italian? Here the traslation:

Italiano: Mappa dell'Area Schengen

Stati membri dello spazio Schengen

Stati membri dello spazio Schengen (solo frontiere marittime e aeree)

Stati UE che non partecipano a Schengen, ma vincolati ad aderirvi in futuro

Stati non UE privi di controlli di frontiera

Italian is my mother tongue, but he page is write only. --Skyfall (talk) 17:13, 31 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
