Among the different possibilities to draw the flattening of the hexahedron, there is one I find more regular than this. Here 4 of the squares have only 1 neighbour, 1 has 2 neighbours and 1 has 4. In the drawing I have put at Image:Hexahedron_flat_z.svg, 2 squares have 1 neighbour, and the other 4 squares have 2.
