Thronill?[edit]

The suggested attribution is "James Thronill after Sir Godfrey Kneller". I guess this is a typo for "James Thornhill", who did paint Newton; however this painting is by (or based on one by) Kneller. The current version "21:35, 27 August 2022" looks like a cropped and slightly adjusted version of https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Portrait_of_Sir_Isaac_Newton,_1689.jpg, which is attributed to Kneller: "Godfrey Kneller, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons". 92.9.224.104 16:05, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tangled web follows:
The attribution was changed from Barrington Bramley in this diff.
Wayback of the original source is here also credited to Bramley, but of very poor quality.
The artuk source, also credited to Bramley, has a better image.
The image I uploaded, I think, is in fact a crop of the original Kneller painting (mea culpa), so should be reverted to the previous version, or the artuk version uploaded? ... and the attribution corrected to be Bramley Hohum (talk) 17:30, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Extra tangle: According to the artuk site, Barrington Bramley b.1950, painting made in 1992, so it would probably be in copyright. Hohum (talk) 17:46, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
