I would be interested to know whether the shahada on a black background has a genuine history as a "flag of jihad", which is how this has been marked. If not it would seem dangerous to conflate this, the most basic statement of Muslim faith, with jihad in general and al-Qaeda in particular.

I was wondering the same thing, when I saw this banner - has Wikipedia really got the authority to acknowledge the existence of a flag of Jihad without giving any sources? Surely there should be a page on Flag of Jihad where the history is explained and authorities given. Otherwise the very use of the name constitutes a kind of original research. 87.139.126.43 16:14, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Text[edit]

Could anybody translate that text into English?--Sanandros 22:44, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It says "There is no god but Allah, and Mohamed is his prophet".
Also, I have reverted the image to an earlier version, because it had an "l" mistake at the end of the word "rasoul" found at the left corner of the image (probably brought about by SVGifying by non-Arabic speakers).
Cheers mate!

used indiscriminately on wikipedia[edit]

this flag image is used in an indiscriminate, anachronistic and frequently ridiculous way here on wikipedia: just look at its usage on [1]!! Sorry, guys: this is a very recently introduced flag used by a group of jihadist militias/movements/parties in several places of the world, but it WAS NOT used in the 19th century nor in the Afghan wars until presumably 1995/96 (exact date needs to be determined). I'd suggest to remove the image of this flag from all pages, where it can not be supported by sources--176.94.9.147 12:17, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed rename to File:Flag of Taliban (reversed).svg[edit]

This filename currently suffers from a bit of original research and quite a bit of POV issues. Calling it Flag of Taliban (reversed).svg nullifies this problem by giving it a factual basis. -- とある白い猫 ちぃ? 15:45, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
