Eustace or Godefrey?[edit]

Same picture, two persons? Who is he? Eustace or Godefrey? - Moldur (talk) 07:11, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Moldur: Almost certainly Godfrey. The source information given for the Godfrey image (i.e. Castello della Manta) seems to be borne out, and in that context he repeatedly been identified as Godfrey (example [1]), not least because he wears the correct coat of arms to be Godfrey. I suggest we therefore delete this version, without redirect. Jarry1250 (talk) 16:25, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Jarry1250: Thanks for the feedback! I stumbled upon this file while working on eo:Eŭstako la 4-a (Bulonjo) and thought I'd seen this figure before, but under the name of Godfrey... and indeed, there it is. It appears under Eustace's name in Wikidata and several Wikipedias. Probably a single mistake which then has spread... Regards, Moldur (talk) 18:56, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Moldur: @Jarry1250: It's not Godfrey neither Eustace. I've read that the fresco represents Marquess Manfred I of Saluzzo (makes sense as Castello della Manta is in this Marquisate) as Godfrey of Bouillon. This is a part of a series of frescos that represent the marquesses and their consorts, as historical/mythological figures. This means that the real person/model is the Marquess, but the associated past figure is Godfrey of Bouillon. You may want to see the commons category of Castello della Manta.
