Does anybody know why Luxembourg is counted as a member of the Central Power?[edit]

This is a very nice map, but Luxembourg was not a member of the Central Powers. If somebody could fix this image, it would be great. Valentinian (talk) 16:07, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And why Iran?[edit]

Iran (Persia) was neutral, and no member of the Central Powers as incorrectly shown on the map; that should be fixed too. Apcbg (talk) 20:03, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Greece[edit]

In 1914 Greece was neutral and remained so until 1917. Sv1xv (talk) 13:57, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also Finland did not exist in 1914 as an independent country. Sv1xv (talk) 15:53, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bulgaria[edit]

Bulgaria also joined the Central powers in late 1915, it was still neutral in 1914. It seems to be a misleading map, putting together several points in time.--Rowanwindwhistler (talk) 22:28, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Italy[edit]

The map is misleading due to the fact its states Italy as a member of the Allied Powers (seemingly) as of 1914. Italy didn't join the Allied Powers until 1915, in 1914 she was still effectively (due to the signing of the Triple Alliance in 1882) a member of the Central Powers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ComradeAlex (talk • contribs) 12:04, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I second this criticism. Most people looking for a handy map of Europe in 1914 are looking for a map of the conditions before the war breaks out--hence, Italy should be part of the Central Powers, or else the map should say 1915 on it.

Woefully innaccurate map[edit]

This map is riddled with factual errors and inaccuracies. See for example the threads above me as well as the talk page for the image of this on Wikipedia and this thread on the WWI talkpage. In the interests of not feeding false information to the public, it is my personal opinion that this image be removed from every article that it appears on until it is made at least passably accurate. In its present state, this map does not show Europe at any single point in the war, and certainly not in 1914, as it claims. ~~ Lothar von Richthofen (talk) 21:34, 16 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, well said. I didn't look at this map closely enough and threw it into a powerpoint for my students. I put the map up and began narrating events, only to stop mid-way in Sarajevo, wondering what the heck was wrong with my map! It should be fixed or removed from Wikimedia Commons and all the Wikipedia articles it might be in, so as to not confuse readers.

Finland not a country in 1914[edit]

The map shows Finland with borders, at the time it was Russian Grand Duchy of Finland. —Preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.23.66.47 (talk) 3 April 2015‎ (UTC12:06)
