Considering that Commons wasn't launched until 7 September 2004, the general consensus is that this file has a bogus timestamp. The earliest file is more likely File:Two_Gambel's_Quail_(Callipepla_gambelii)_-_Paradise_Valley,_Arizona,_ca_2004.png. It was discussed on Facebook. --ghouston (talk) 05:59, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

The logs seem incomplete, but I assume it was uploaded originally as File:Animal2.jpg and later renamed. You can now also find older files on Commons thanks to the feature that allows transferring them from other wikis: they retain their original upload date. --ghouston (talk) 21:32, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
