Did Crookes tubes ever use a filament?[edit]

I can't find any reference to Crookes tubes using a heated cathode, as the diagram shows. These references describe Crookes tubes as cold cathode tubes: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 --Chetvorno 19:18, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Circuit is wrong[edit]

The power supply connections are in error. In the diagram the Maltese cross is connected to the negative terminal of the power supply, and the positive terminal is connected to the face of the tube. If the tube were connected in this way, the cross would act as a cathode itself, and not cast a shadow. In the many Maltese cross tubes shown on the web, the cross is either the anode of the tube, connected to the positive terminal 1 2 3 4 5 6 7, or there is a separate anode and the cross does not have an external connection to the circuit 8. Crookes tubes did not have a connection to their face, that is seen only in modern CRTs. --Chetvorno 01:33, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
