Large sections of the "French Territory" had no French control, and only rather tenuous French trade ties... AnonMoos 00:56, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There seem to be a number of problems with this map. The most glaring, to me, is the depiction of "Russian Territory". In 1750 Russia had no North American territory to speak of. The voyages of Bering and Chirikov date to 1741 and 1742. The first Russian settlement in Alaska dates to 1784. The whole Pacific Northwest was unexplored by any European nation before the 1770s. Also, Spain did not begin to colonize Alta California until the 1760s. There are many similar issues with this map. Pfly (talk) 00:10, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The description states that the map depicts "Territories in the Americas colonized or claimed," so it isn't confined to physical settlements. --50.46.248.86 21:43, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
