Joan Baum's book on Ada, The Calculating Passion of Ada Byron (1986), contains the black and white sketch from which this image was created. The caption reads "Ada at twenty-seven in a traditional costume of the period. Sketch by A. E. Chalon (1780-1860), subject and portrait painter. Courtesy of John Murray (Publishers) London." If the age given in the caption is correct, the original sketch would have been made in 1842 or 1843. Gobonobo (talk) 05:06, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
