Not a vote count error[edit]

Hi Carol, I do not agree with you that this screen dump reflects a vote count error.

  1. The photo was originally nominated by User:Absolutecars on October 12, 2007 in this edit
  2. An anonymous user then commented on it on October 13
  3. The photo is then moved to CR, and on October 17, User:Beyond silence places a support vote on the photo with the comment As nominator. I think you misinterprete this as supporting as if he is the nominator, but that is not the case since User:Absolutecars is the nominator.

I therefore do not agree that there is an error in the vote count in this articular example.

Having said that, voting error counts certainly occur from time to time, here is an example. However, I have never experienced that votes are miscounted on purpose, on the contrary.

I suggest that you do one of the following

  • Correct the image page description, such that it reflects the facts concerning that particular vote count
  • Use the real world vote count error example mentioned above including the following correction of the vote count
  • Use a third example of a real vote count error, if you manage to spot another one.
  • Request that the image deleted

Yes I agree, User:Beyond silence's vote was essentially a form of "per nom." as is often used in other forums - ie his reasons for support are the same as those stated by the nominator. --Tony Wills 19:26, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would also like to point out that if I am the one who executes a promotion/decline decision in CR for QIC that I verify the summary (and correct if needed) and verify the decision (and correct if needed) before proceeding. Of course I am just as prone to making errors as the next person so I trust others keep an eye on what I do too :-). Entries usually dally in CR for a few days after closing to allow others to scrutinise decisions. Nominators of images keep an extra special watch on their own entries which certainly helps keep things accurate :-) --Tony Wills 19:57, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am constantly in a battle in my own mind when trying to work though what should be a simple question. The question is this "what the heck is going on with the internet?" Perhaps I am the only one in all of the world and on the internet who has this battle so often, or at all -- but that is the simple fact.

Censorship is a funny thing. I have mentioned elsewhere and I mention it here -- actual rule breaking or not adhereing to strong suggestions is allowed, but screenshots, where a problem is caught as it happens -- this becomes censored. My instinct, that little voice inside of me that tells me 'what people are really expecting' is telling me that people want me to put these screenshots on my own web site. I am going to suggest, strongly, that the best thing to do is to leave them here and along with the dialog here and a good few months of everyone behaving.

Since 2003 or so, in real life and in this internet thing -- there are not any people who seem to be able to speak plainly -- I think this is a lot to do with the parts of my mind that want to guess what people are hinting at.

You can delete the screenshots -- I obviously have no power to keep that from happening. You can even show that you have no concern for whatever respect I have for the people involved here, especially as it will really begin to dwindle to levels unmeasureable.

The only thing that I will definately know, is that sometimes I can be manipulated to do things but other times, I can catch it while it is happening and I cannot be emotionally manipulated in such thoughtless and somewhat cruel ways. I also definately know that when I get to see a mistake I made, quite often, it makes me laugh and it also helps me in the future to not make this mistake again. Probably, I am very unique this way and should not expect anyone else in the world or especially on the internet to view their mistakes this same way.

Better to censor and hide them and cower behind alias and anonymity. -- carol 02:13, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And more -- one of those screenshots could have been so perfectly and elegantly /Decline Not big enough. The other one would have been fun to discuss, like the suggestion of putting the background (in this case my desktop) back in and applying a motion blur.
I will, forever as a contributor and a human female be disappointed with the lack of sense of humor and of self awareness and the smallness of the intellect that was exhibited in regards to all of this. I am right now, very sorry about this fact. -- carol 02:18, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That last paragraph sounds like a put down, but then it is hard to tell if it is just self criticism ;-) Your tangential replies are very amusing, and it is difficult to tell if you are trying to make any serious points or just indulging yourself for your own amusement (or just drunk :-). If the later, I fear your efforts are wasted in an arena devoted to cataloguing 'Quality Images', I think you need an altogether more dynamic and creative environment. Your forays into this QI forum, from offering to manufacture votes for people, to submitting parodies of nominations etc, might be seen as funny put people take things at face value as many are not native English speakers, and it is easy to have mis-communications. So I hope you are enjoying yourself as you bounce things off our all too serious heads :-) --Tony Wills 05:33, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PS either you are unique (ie a single example) or not, 'very unique' makes no sense ;-) --Tony Wills 05:33, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
PPS I think a screen capture with motion blur is a great idea ;-) --Tony Wills 05:33, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It really was archived within minutes, perhaps even seconds after I got the screen grab.
No drinking here lately. Not my preference and also not me at my best. I noticed when I was taking the mathematics and physics classes that one beer on Wednesday night and I had a difficult time learning the new stuff on Thursday and catching up on Friday through Sunday was difficult because I was working then. Legal to drive drinking affected me very negatively.
Also, when I have been drinking, I usually head to Flickr and make comments there.
You know -- what do you guys (or gals -- it is the internet, who the hell knows?) do for a living and fun? -- carol 08:15, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Evidently congregate on wikis and just do their thing  :-) --Tony Wills 09:05, 19 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
