Summary[edit]

Description Drainage pipe awaits placement inside a Yolo Bypass levee in West Sacramento, Calif., Aug. 18, 2011. Under its West Sacramento Project, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District is repairing a slump in the levee and installing a drain and pumps to redirect water seeping into the levee. The perforated pipe, wrapped in a permeable sheath to keep out dirt, will collect water seeping into the levee and channel it into the bypass. Since 2002, seepage has been causing the levee to sink by about two feet a year on average, Corps engineer Greg Solakis said. (U.S. Army Photo/Todd Plain)
