Description / Descriptions : William Taylor (1789-1834) was the eldest son of James Taylor, a Scotsman who had served with the British forces and was one of the first loyalist settlers to come to Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was a partner in his family's successful business firm, became a coroner for York County in 1819 and a member of the New Brunswick Legislature in 1822. Devoutly religious, he was a member of the committee established to build St. Paul's Church in Fredericton. He first married Anne Cameron in 1816 and then Sally Hatfield in 1819, and died in 1834. There is another known portrait of Taylor by Robert Field, but its present location is unknown. This portrait miniature was donated to the National Archives by the great-grand-daughter of the sitter in 1934. /
