Description	The William Street Slide, view from the top of the Liberty Tunnels looking north toward Downtown across the Monongahela River. The Panhandle Division Bridge can be seen to the left of the Liberty Bridge. The Liberty Bridge was designed by George S. Richardson and built in 1928 by Allegheny County. The bridge crosses the Monongahela River and has a 420-foot main spans with lower chords shaped like segmental arches, though in fact they consist of two cantilever trusses and a suspended span. The total length (including longest elevated ramp) is 2663 feet with the height of the deck at 44.4 feet near the piers. The bridge officially opened on March 27, 1928. The decorative traffic circle plaza visible in the lower right corner was built in 1928 at the intersection of the Liberty Bridge and the Mount Washington Roadway. Construction in the photo shows one of many reductions in the size of the traffic circle, which was eventually eliminated.
