Summary[edit]
DescriptionWeir on the Water of Leith - geograph.org.uk - 534384.jpg |
English: Weir on the Water of Leith This river tumbling through Edinburgh some 35 miles from The Pentland Hills to the south had become a dumping ground for all sorts of rubbish. There were numerous mills in the 18th and 19th centuries providing goods for the growing city and its mercheants and the weirs provided pools of water to turn wheels. The City of Edinburgh authorities have in the 1980s and 1990s cleaned up the mess and made a walkway for some 18 miles through the city. |
