Summary[edit]

Description
English: Wittlich, Germany bomb results of 853rd Bomb Squadron of 491st Bomb Group on 12/24/1944 during the Battle of the Bulge. Both the railroad and highway bridges were destroyed, stopping the flow of supplies to the German troops. Note inscription of "Shoemate". He was the 853rd lead pilot on that mission. Francisco David Mercado was the lead bombardier. All bombs hit within 2000 feet (610 meters) and 10% hitting within 1000 feet (305 meters). Photo was found in the army trunk of Francisco David Mercado.
