Description
English: Persian Gulf (June 6, 2005) – U.S and Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Sailors aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60), stand side-by-side to honor World War II D-Day veterans during an early evening memorial ceremony. The hour-long service marked the 61st anniversary of coalition allies storming the beaches of Normandy, France, June 6, 1944. The crew gathered on the fantail of the ship and listened to words of remembrance from the commanding officer and from family members of those who took part in D-Day invasion. The Commander Task Force Five Eight (CTF-58) flagship is conducting maritime security operations (MSO) in the region. MSO sets the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment.
