The type of antenna shown is a high gain UHF turnstile antenna for satellite communication. It consists of two Yagi arrays mounted on a boom with its elements at right angles, fed in quadrature (90° out of phase), in front of a circular screen reflector. It radiates a beam of circularly polarized radio waves off its end, which is pointed at the satellite. Circular polarization is used for satellite communication since it is not sensitive to the relative orientation of the transmitter and receiver's antenna elements.
