Description
English: The U.S. Navy heavy cruiser USS Chicago (CA-136) being converted to a guided missile cruiser at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard, San Francisco, California (USA), on 26 October 1962. The conversion started on 1 July 1959 and the ship was re-commissioned as USS Chicago (CG-11) on 2 May 1964.
In the background are the guided missile cruiser USS Halsey (DLG-23), commissioned on 20 July 1963, and the bow of the fleet oiler USS Mattaponi (AO-41).
