DescriptionUSMC-050607-M-4322H-003.jpg |
English: 050607-M-4322H-003 MARINE CORPS AIR STATION FUTENMA, OKINAWA, Japan - Marines from the aircraft recovery section, Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, honed their skills by arresting an F/A-18D Hornet, from MCAS Iwakuni here Jun. 6. Arresting, or trapping, is a process in which the aircraft's tail hook catches a stationary wire to stop the aircraft. Arrestment is much like the process used on aircraft carriers when tactical aircraft need to land on a limited or short runway. This is the first time many of the MCAS Futenma-based Marines have had an opportunity to take part in a hands-on training mission since February 2002. (Official U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl.
