Summary[edit]

Description
English:
  • Photograph of the top of the boiler on the William Crooks locomotive.
  • Overview: Behind the bell are three distinct “humps.” The first is the steam dome that collects steam fed to the steam chests, and operates the whistle mounted on top. The second is a sand dome that feeds sand to the driving wheels. The third is a steam dome equipped with a safety valve that prevents excess steam pressure from building up in the boiler.
  • Taken on February 23rd, 2009.
