Summary[edit]

Description

The rectangle shaped stone bears the following text in German: "HIER RUHT IN GOTT / CARL R. LUTZ / GENERALKONSUL A.D. / 1895–1975 / WAS IHR GETAN HABT FÜR DIE NOTLEIDENDEN, DAS HABT IHR MIR GETAN / - MTH. 25,40".

The epitaph can be translated with "Here rests with God / Carl R. Lutz / 1895–1975 / former Consul-General / What you have done for those suffering, you have done for me / - Mth. 25,40". The quote comes from the Bible "whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" (Gospel of Matthew, chapter 25, verse 40).
