pe.Close up underneath the jaw the bone of the tongue (oshyoides) can be felt; a little lower is a projection, com-monly called Adams apple, more prominent in men thanwomen (the tlryroid cartilage), the interior of which formspart of the larynx, or instrument by which the voice is pro-duced ; below this the windpipe (trachea) can be readilytraced. The Chest, or thorax, is formed by the twelve dorsalvertebrae, the collar-bones, blade-bones, ribs, and breast-bone with the flesh ; all these bones are so jointed to eachother as to allow of considerable alternate contraction andexpansion of the chest during the act of breathing. The Breasts (mammai). On either side of the breast-bone (sternum) are the Breasts. These are made up of fat,connective tissue, vessels, nerves, and milk-glands. Theseglands have some resemblance to bunches of currants, andterminate by fine tubes or ducts in the Nipple or Teat(mamilla).
