In-stead of adding more scats the company has put in a fresh consign-ment of old leather straps for the tired passenger to dangle fromon his way home. The windows look as if they had not beenwashed in six months and every car has at least one flat wheel andgoes pounding along making a noise like a boiler shop. In shortthe every evidence of the company is a fortissimo declaration ofthe public be damned policy. And the cub pondered on these things. The New York Court of Appeals has fixed the amount o( theBrooklyn Rapid Transit Cos. state tax at $5,3,499. The system operated by the Lewiston, Brunswick & Bath StreetRailway Co., of Lewiston, Me., is quite as interesting as any roadin the country both from engineering and operating standpoints.The lines comprise 55 miles of track connecting the villages ofSabattus, Lisbon and Lisbon Falls with the cities of Lewiston,Auburn, Brunswick and Bath. Current is generated at both steam and water power stations antransmitted at high potential to transformer sub-stations.
