THE licatcr, as seen in the illustration, is iuuIlt thecar, and is fed from the outside, with hard coal orcoke. The tire-box or drawer is connected withseveral small pipes, or Hues, through which pass thesmoke and gases. As shown, the heat is brought intothe car through a register in the tloor. The outsideair. passing around the fire-box and Huts, comes upthrough the register and fills the car with pure, heatedair, and at the same time causes a current from belowwhich carries off through the ventilators the impure air.
Text Appearing After Image:
A feature of this heater is that the fire-box is remov-able and can be withdrawn and placed in another car,as when one car runs into the barn and is relieved byanother. The inventor is C. S. Dean, of Buffalo, N. Y.
