LOUTH CHURCH. Louth prospered so much that in 1823it became an independent station, andas such has ever since continued. Itsarea comprised not only the pleasantvillages in the undulations of the Wolds,but also the marsh country extendingfrom Louth to the sea, with its dikesbroad and deep doing duty for hedges.It was not until on in the forties thatthe Alford part of the circuit stood onthe stations as a Branch. The Rev. JoelHodgson who, with J. F. Parrish, DanielMoore, Jabez Wood, F. W. Atkin anda host of ministers, too numerous toname, is a native of this part of the oldLouth circuit, tells us that in 1835, whenElizabeth Rowbotham was stationed atScotter first six months and Louthlast six months, with J. Wright assuperintendent, each would on alternatefortnights walk on a Saturday fromLouth to liogsthorpe, some twenty miles,preaching at night in the kitchenand taking their Sunday appointmentsnext day.
