THE STRUCTURE, DISEASES AND MALFORMA-TIONS OP THE PENTS AND THE PARTSIMMEDIATELY CONNECTED WITH IT The Penis is a hollow spongy organ down whichruns the passage from the bladder, called theUrethra, by which the urine escapes, which alsoserves for the exit of the semen, as before ex-plained. The Anatomical structure of this organ is notthoroughly understood by Anatomists, owing to thedifficulty which necessarily exists of dissecting itin its several states. Sufficient, however, is knownto explain its Physiological action, which is all wenow require to know. The body of the Penis consists of two distinctparts, each of which is very porous, or ratherspongy. The upper part, which is the largest, iscalled the Corpus Cavernosum; the under part,which is much the same in its structure, is calledthe Corpus Spongiosum.
