Summary[edit]

Description

Made by German sculptor Fritz Koenig.

For three decades this sculpture stood in the Austin Tobin Plaza at the WTC. It was ment a symbol of world peace. It was set to rotate once every 24 hours and its base became a popular lunch spot for workers in the WTC. It was damaged during 9/11. The Sphere -its damage deliberately left unrepaired- was replaced in Battery Park on march 11, 2002 as a temporary memorial for those who died in the attack on the TWIN Towers.
