Summary[edit]

Description

Early this morning, 5am to be precise, I met up with friend and fellow photographer Matt. We had planned to photography Corfe Castle from on top of one of the two hills that flank it, yet the weather was many miles from ideal, rendering the landscape in a boring grey. So instead, we headed down into Swanage to photograph the pier. There, we were met with a sign that read "CLOSED - PRIVATE PARTY." This is something that is owned by the residents, yet we are charged to walk on and can be hired out to whoever decides to pay whatever amount of coin that goes straight into the councils pockets. So, as per usual in Dorset during the summer months, the weather was awful and the place was too busy to photograph.

So we gave up. We went our separate ways and on my way home, I decided to pay a little visit to the most beautiful train station in the world. Corfe Castle train station is a portal to another time, a doorway to yesterday. Not only is it rarely swamped with sheer volume of tourists that descend on this beautiful part of the country, it is also genuinely authentic. You really could believe that you have gone back in time to a place in history when the world wasn't falling apart. Everything is quiet, everything is still. The hustle and bustle of tourist filled high streets simply doesn't exist here and for a moment, you are all alone in the world.
