His pictures are of far less importance than his life, as a 252 ART AND ARTISTS OF OUR TIME. teaclier, and even of his pictures, it is tlie simpler and less pretending ones that have madethe most impression. Several of them, The Girl at the Foiintain, The Violet-Seller,the Street-Musician, and the Marguerite, which we reproduce, were published, andthough now seldom seen, once enjoyed a great popularity.
