English: The House of Correction According to the Hexham Local History Society leaflet 'Industrial Area and Tyne Green', this building "is the surviving part of the House of Correction for housing miscreants, established in 1784. The surviving structure with slit windows and strong door was erected c1820 and connected to domestic buildings (now demolished) forming an L-shaped range. The House of Correction was no longer used as such after c1870 and [was] sold in 1876 and converted for housing". |
