Summary[edit]

Description
English: The 'Craven Heifer', Kelbrook, Yorkshire. The original name of this public house was 'The Scotchman's Arms' (sic). It was renamed 'The Craven Heifer', (a common public house name hereabouts),after a beast of prodigious size raised on the nearby Broughton Estate was exhibited at Royal Smithfield, in, I think, 1888. Once on a back street, the above pub had an amazing stroke of luck when the 1930's straightenings of the A56 brought the main road right past its front door. The pub prospered while its rival on the former Main Street in Kelbrook, was closed.
