Description
Català: Taula central del retaule de sant Jeroni de Jaume Mateu, tremp sobre taula, 422 x 288 cm. Ca. 1440 - 1450, museu catedralici de Sogorb.

El retaule procedeix de la capella del mateix nom al claustre de la catedral de Sogorb, al costat de la sala capitular, constitueix una de les obres més tardanes que es poden atribuir al pintor Jaume Mateu, encara imbuïda d'un esperit internacional on comencen a aflorar petits detalls propis d'un incipient flamenquisme.

El retaule, de difícil interpretació iconogràfica, porta la imatge del titular a la taula central, amb els atributs propis del seu rang, coronada en l'espiga amb l'escena del Calvari. Al carrer lateral esquerra la Flagel·lació del sant per àngels; Miracle de la devolució del ruquet robat per uns lladres al sant i trasllat del cos de Sant Jeroni. Al carrer lateral dreta, aparició de sant Joan Baptist i sant Jeroni a Ciril, bisbe d'Alexandria; sant Jeroni alliberant de la mort l'arquebisbe Silvano i resurrecció de tres morts per la mediació de sant Jeroni. A la predel·la huit escenes de profetes emmarquen la figuració del Baró dels Dolors sostingut per un àngel.
