Soviet commissar, most likely to be Aleksei Gordeyevich Yeryomenko, political officer of the 220th Rifle Regiment, 4th Rifle Division, killed in action in 1942 leading his soldiers to the assault in Ukraine, Voroshilovgrad region. The political commissar or officer was the supervisory political officer responsible for the political education and ideology in a USSR unit.
