Bien que cette image soit identifiée à Joseph et la femme de Putiphar, elle ne semble pas correspondre à la description qu'en donne le livret du Salon de 1804 (no 226) ref : "Zaluca, femme de Putiphar,venant en secret visiter Joseph dans sa prison - Elle est agitée, s'avance d'un pas chancelant, et demeure étonnée du repos qu'il semble goûter dans ce séjour d'horreur".

La peinture semble plutôt correspondre à Alcibiade et Glycerion de la même artiste, présentée au Salon de 1802 (no 122) ref), avec la description suivante : "Alcibiade s’étant introduit chez Glycerion, la surprend comme elle se mettait au bain. Apercevant Alcibiade, elle se couvre à la hâte du premier vêtement qu’elle rencontre sous sa main, et lui ordonne de sortir."
