Solar Corona

Summary[edit]

Description This 3-D view shows the Sun's atmosphere or corona as viewed in X-ray light. It was obtained by the Japanese Soft X-Ray Telescope. Visible above the surface are coronal loops. These loops are made up of hot ionized gas that travels along magnetic field lines. Brightness variations in this view are related to variations in gas temperature and density.
