Summary[edit]

Description
English: This is the signature detail from the wedding certificate of the second Jewish wedding in New Zealand, which took place in Wellington New Zealand, June 1st, 1842. The signatures, including the witnesses, are the same ones that are on the accompanying "Yibbum," or document promising that the brother of the groom would care for (ie, potentially even marry) the bride should the groom die leaving her childless. The signatures are nearly identical, except that in this detail, Esther signed her first name using a small letter "e." In the Yibbum, she signs with a capital "E," but even that is awkward and unpracticed, whereas in both documents, Benjamin's signature is much more polished.
