Summary[edit]

Description Last Shay built by Lima (1945). Built for steep 9% grades for the Western Maryland Railway. After four years service was stored and then donated to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum where it remained for 26 years. Traded to Cass Scenic Railroad in 1981. The biggest Shay still running (162 tons). Starts at Cass (elevation 2,443 ft.) and runs to Bald Knob (elevation about 4,700 ft.) in about 11 miles. This big bruiser is seen here at Bald Knob.
