Sgt. Joseph A. Young (CP 909), National Museum of Health and Medicine Description: Sergeant Joseph A. Young, Company D, 31st and 32nd Missouri battalion, holds an item and shows the wounds of a gunshot at his wrist. Caption reads: “Gunshot wound of left fore arm. Sgt. Jos. A. Young Co d. 31st Mo.” History is on reverse: "Joseph A. Young. Joseph A. Young, Serg’t, Co. D. 31st and 32nd Mo., consolidated battalion, was admitted to Harewood U.S.A. Gen’l Hospital, May 31st 1865, with gunshot wound left fore-arm near the wrist, injuring the soft parts only. The ball entered the wall of the abdomen near the centre of the epigastrium and passed around to the right lodging in the soft parts near the external border of the inferior angle of the right scapula. The constitution of the patient was strong and robust. On admission he was much exhausted and was compelled to lie in a horizontal position on his back. The wounds were small and simple. He showed no symptoms of peritonitis. From the first the patient improved and the wounds are now healed and the patient well. Harewood U.S.A. General Hospital, R.B.
