Virus serovars with common antigens are called a serogroup or serocomplex.

Summary[edit]

Description
English: A given species of virus can have small differences within their genome, sometimes resulting in slightly different versions of a protein. These proteins may be expressed on the virus membrane / capsid. Depending on these differences, they may represent different antigens which are recognized by different host antibodies. Those virus subtypes that are recognized by a common set of antigens are deemed to be part of the same serogroup.
