Summary[edit]

Description

Page 125 of brochure Seattle and the Orient (1900). This page consists of text plus a photo captioned "Scandinavian American Bank. / The Building the property of Yesler Estate, Incorporated."

Among the visible signs in the photo: On the bank, several signs saying "Bank" or "Scandinavian American Bank"; the sign in the window appears to have some additional text that I cannot read. There is also a barber pole for the downstairs establishment and a sign just left of the main bank entrance saying "Railroad and steamship tickets". A sign over the basement door says "Railroad and steamship tickets / to all places cash and exchange". There is also a logo over the basement door that is not clear but begins with either "F" or "T" and ends with "’s". The building next door has a partially obscured sign indicating that it is the The Schwabacher Hardware Company. (This was a few years before Schwabacher built its big building three blocks south.) Also visible is "Dealers in Heavy [] / US[]".

This building at the southwest corner of First and Yesler (diagonally across the street from Pioneer Square Park) still exists as of 2007 (as do the other buildings visible in the photo), though the bank is long gone and an upper storey has been added.
