Summary[edit]
DescriptionSaltykov-Shchedrin Library (26405707386).jpg |
English: This library was named after one of the most prominent satirists in the history of Russian literature, Mikhail Yevgrafovich Saltykov-Schedrin. His writing focused on social issues such as serfdom, corruption, and social immobility. He was admired by radical youth towards the end of his life in the late nineteenth century. Vladimir Lenin, as well as his brother Alexander and his sister Anna were among his admirers. The book this stamp came from included another stamp in Estonian which refers to a library that was most likely located in Reval, present-day Tallinn, Estonia. This book stamp is from a book looted by the Nazis and sorted by Colonel Seymour Pomrenze, one of “the Monuments Men,” at the Offenbach Archival Depot. |
