Description
English: Silver ingots of double axe form with stamped inscriptions, from the Tower of London, Reculver and Richborough, Kent. Late 4th century to early 5th century. Com;position: 95% silver, 3.7%copper, 0.4% gold, 0.5% lead. One uninscribed, one inscribed EX OFFE HONORINI ("from the workshop of Honorinus"), and one inscribed EX OFFI ISATIS ("from the workshop of Isas"). Silver ingots such as these were used to pay soldiers and civil servants. British Museum P&E 1980,1002.1.
