English: A cast copper-alloy figurine of probable 1st to 2nd century AD date. The figure represented has been identified as Harpocrates and is of possible eastern (maybe Egyptian) origin. The figure stands 69.3mm tall by 29mm wide and 12.8mm thick and weighs 80.59g. He is depicted as standing at a slight angle, as if leaning against something, and is facing to his right. He wears a draped, full-length, v-necked garment. The drapery extends down the upper part of the arms, although the lower parts are now missing. Traces of solder within the arm sockets indicate that the arms were cast separately. The right arm is raised slightly, presumably originally with the right hand raised to the chin in Harpocrates' characteristic gesture. The hairstyle is elaborate, with a frontal peak and curls to the shoulders. He wears a simple headdress with a backward-facing crest at the front. The eyes contain traces of solder and may originally have held glass or enamel settings. No trace of the nose remains and the facial features are only faintly depicted. The figurine has been broken from a base and the lower legs and feet are now missing. Although more commonly depicted naked, draped figurines of Harpocrates occasionally occur in Britain and are usually assumed to be Eastern imports. Two examples are known from London, both of which are naked (Pitts 1979, 76, 127-8, pl. 31).
