Title
Roman Coin: Denarius of Otho
Description
English: Report for H M Coroner

Bottesford (addenda), Lincolnshire

Richard Abdy

4 AR denarii to AD 207 - see also NLM-ADA762, NLM-C03203 and NLM-28BC26 (with a fifth, stray coin at NLM-28CBD5).

Circumstances of discovery

These addenda were found whilst metal-detecting on a number of occasions between 1997 - 2013. The original find was a Severan denarius hoard (tpq AD 207) consisting of 165 coins (and eleven pottery sherds from a greyware globular jar). This was published by J. Williams and V. Rigby in CHRB XI, pp.139-146. Another Severan denarius hoard in the same general area has been recorded separately under a different findspot name: Holme, Lincolnshire (2003 T225), 408 AR denarii and a small grey ware jar or flagon to AD 209; hoard summary in NC 2006, pp.368-9.

Stray coin

Also handed in from the same finder was a base silver radiate of Philip II as Caesar (AD 244-7), however as this forms a very obvious outlier to the denarius hoard group it is recorded below as a stray find.
