Bottesford (addenda), Lincolnshire Richard Abdy 4 AR denarii to AD 207 - see NLM-ADD973, NLM-ADA762, NLM-C03203 and NLM-28BC26 - this coin (NLM-28CBD5) is the fifth, stray coin. Stray coin Also handed in from the same finder was a base silver radiate of Philip II as Caesar (AD 244-7), however as this forms a very obvious outlier to the denarius hoard group it is recorded below as a stray find. Silver Coin. Radiate of Philip II (244-249) as Caesar, mint of Rome issue of 245-246, cf. RIC 218d, Reece period 12 Obverse description: Beardless radiate bust draped right. Obverse inscription: M IVL PHILIPPVS CAES Reverse inscription: Phillip in military dress standing left holding globe in right hand resting on spear in left. Reverse description: PRINCIPII VVENT Cliff Reeves kindly identified this coin citing Sear volume 3 no. 9240 Diameter: 22.0mm, Weight: 3.04gms, die axis: 12 |
