Title
Ring
Description
English: Annular ring of copper alloy. This is likely to be a simple annular round (or near round) section buckle frame of Medieval date, probably 13th –15th century. The ring is plain, except for an expanded area with a pair of low lugs and the pin constricting mouldings. The relatively narrow gap or groove between these mouldings would suggest the rings use as a buckle rather than a brooch. The groove seemingly being too slender to seat the stem of a brooch pin. Egan (1991) states that a constriction on a single frame is generally an indication of a brooch rather than a buckle, leaving a possible alternative as a brooch. The ring is generally in good condition with a good brown patina, although some of the surface has been lost on the reverse.
